Up To $1,900 In Rebates And Tax Credits Means There’s No Better Time Than Now To Upgrade
If you own a home, you can apply for federal tax credits when buying an energy-efficient HVAC system, which help to make upgrading more affordable.
Here is a look at a few of the heating- and cooling-equipment tax credits that are available to homeowners:
- Central Air Conditioning: (up to $300 in tax credits) Select either a split system that has an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) > 13 and a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) > 16; or a package system that has an EER > 12 and a SEER > 14.
- Electric Heat Pumps: (up to $300 in rebates) Select either a split system that has an Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) >8.5, EER > 12.5, or a SEER > 15; or a package system that has an EER > 12 or a SEER > 14
- Furnaces and Boilers: (up to $150 in incentives) Select a natural gas or propane furnace with an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE)> 95; an oil furnace with an AFUE > 90; or a gas, propane, or oil hot-water boiler with an AFUE > 90.
- Advanced Main Air Circulating Fan: (up to $50 in rebates) Choose a fan that utilizes no more than 2 percent of the furnace’s total energy use.
There are a few qualifying guidelines you must meet in order to be eligible for the tax credits: 1) The system must be for your primary residence; 2) The rebates apply to purchases made in 2011.
Manufacturers also offer rebates that give your total savings a boost. For example, Lennox currently offers up to $1,900 in rebates for qualifying equipment.
