Shopping For HVAC Equipment? Why The Energy Star Label Matters
When you are shopping for new appliances, there are a number of factors to think about. Brand, price, warranty and many other things must be considered if you are going to find the right products, with the features you are looking for. While HVAC equipment is not something that you have to worry about being the most attractive addition to the home, you certainly should not forget to look for the Energy Star label.
Energy Star came about when the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency collaborated on a joint effort to help everyone save money on their energy bills, while at the same time doing something positive for the environment. The results of these efforts can already be noticed in the savings realized by Americans of about $18 billion dollars on utility bills just in 2010 alone, not to mention a reduction in gas emissions equivalent to the tune of about 33 million cars.
It has been estimated that if just one in 10 households purchased an Energy Star-qualified HVAC system to replace the older one they are using now, that would bring about a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that would amount to removing 1.3 million cars from the road each year. That would be 15 billion pounds less greenhouse emissions going into the atmosphere.
Buying only Energy Star qualified appliances such as heating and air conditioning systems for the home really does matter when you wish to save money and cut down on the negative impact you and your family are having on the environment.
